Name the device you need to restart
There are two different questions: can you start the controlled computer, and can you recover Comet Pro itself? An accessory pressing the computer's power button addresses the first. It does not give an unpowered or unreachable KVM a way to receive your command. Draw those two devices separately in your plan.
This guide interprets GL.iNet documentation checked September 13, 2026. It contains no hands-on recovery results. The goal is a compatibility shortlist and a local verification plan, not a guarantee that a particular laptop, motherboard, or network will recover unattended.
Choose a method for the actual failure
These methods are alternatives for different constraints, not a ranking by reliability. A machine that only needs to wake from sleep may not justify an internal accessory. A machine whose operating system regularly freezes calls for a different evaluation than one that simply turns its display off.

Wake-on-LAN: a documented command is not proof of a wake
Comet Pro's console includes Wake-on-LAN device management, including manually entering a device name and MAC address. That provides a way to issue a wake request. Your target still needs to support the requested behavior in its current state.
Before buying an accessory, record the target model, wired network adapter, firmware settings, and the state you need to recover from. Test sleep and a normal shutdown separately if both matter. A successful wake from sleep does not demonstrate a wake after every shutdown, power loss, or network change. Keep the result narrow: record what happened, rather than writing 'remote power works' after one attempt.
ATX board: match the motherboard before the shopping cart
GL.iNet documents the GL-ATXPC as an internal accessory connecting the computer's front-panel wiring and motherboard F_PANEL interface, then connecting to the KVM by USB. Its guide includes several header layouts and warns that polarity can vary. Comet Pro supports one ATX board; the vendor explicitly excludes Comet Q.
Use the exact motherboard manual and GL.iNet's installation diagrams together. A desktop-shaped case is not evidence of a compatible connector, and a laptop should not be assumed to offer the same installation route. If the connector mapping or physical fit remains unclear, stop at that uncertainty and obtain model-specific confirmation before ordering.
Fingerbot: inspect the physical button
Comet Pro's console guide describes a Fingerbot attached at the controlled device's physical power button. The console offers press-duration and force settings. That makes the location and operation of the real button part of the purchase decision.
Photograph the button and surrounding surface, note whether the device moves or is opened regularly, and decide whether an attached actuator would obstruct normal use. These are inspection prompts, not a compatibility certification. A remote command succeeding in software is insufficient if the actuator misses the button. Prefer ordinary shutdown when the operating system responds; a forced power action is a recovery operation with potential loss of unsaved work.
Write one acceptance plan before spending
Skip the purchase if existing remote desktop and an available helper already cover the job. If you need pre-OS access plus a physical power action, inspect Comet Pro and the matching accessory as a complete system. Do not treat host power control as a replacement for keeping the router and KVM powered and reachable.
- State the desired recovery: wake from sleep, start after normal shutdown, or recover an unresponsive host.
- Confirm the exact KVM model and accessory, target connector or button, and installation requirements.
- Budget the complete configuration, including any separately sold accessory, required cables, and power arrangements.
- While someone is present, verify ordinary local operation, remote reachability, and only the authorized recovery states you need.
- Record what remains untested and arrange a physical fallback for failures outside the demonstrated path.

Questions before you decide
Does Comet Pro include everything needed to switch a PC on and off?
Not necessarily. Wake-on-LAN depends on the target and its configuration. GL.iNet lists ATX board and Fingerbot as optional, separately sold power-control accessories. Confirm the exact bundle contents and target compatibility before ordering.
Will a Comet Pro ATX accessory restart the KVM itself?
The documented ATX installation controls the connected computer's front-panel power functions. It does not establish a recovery path for an unpowered or unreachable KVM. Plan KVM power and network recovery separately.
